Good value, but not a great kayak Aug 01, 2009

We bought the Airhead 1-person inflatable kayak and used it for the first time on a rather lengthy trip down the Upper Delaware river. The kayak inflates quickly and easily and the seat is relatively easy to attach. My 12 y.o. daughter used this kayak for most of the trip and liked it, but I tried it for a period of time and it has some serious drawbacks. On this trip we were going downstream with a significant flow, so paddling in a straight line for any period of time was not a big deal. This boat is very hard to keep going in a straight line as you are sitting up quite high and even with the help of some small skegs, there is simply no way to comfortably keep it going where you want for any length of time. I also have issue with the lack of proper finishing on seams and lack of a carry bag, and I have serious doubts about it surviving even mild whitewater. However, all that said, it got the job done for a reasonable price. So, for going down a moving river, it is okay. If you want to cross still water without wandering all over the place, it is probably not for you. By the way, the Upper Delaware is awesome!

Good boat for good price Sep 27, 2011
By buzz lightyear This boat is a good affordable option for inflatable kayaking. It seems to be made of pretty durable material and the seats are pretty comfortable. It's a little strange that the bottom of the boat is so wavy but it doesn't seem to matter much. The inflatable removable floor usually needs adjusting right out of the box to get it aligned correctly. Another odd thing is that the valves aren't tethered to the boat which seems like an oversight. In order to deflate the boat you have to remove the valve entirely and keep it in a safe place. Other kayaks have the valves tethered to the boat so you don't lose them. Overall though, this is a good quality boat at a reasonable price point. I purchased it at $240 with free shipping thru amazon. It's not a low end boat like a sevylor tahiti but not a higher end whitewater boat like the aire tomcat. It's a good middle of the road boat and the price reflects that. I use it on class II water as well as flat water lakes and it does great.
