Great Protection May 19, 2011

I bought this cover around Thanksgiving when my last Blackberry was destroyed when the screen and lcd shattered when something was dropped on it. The cover is not the prettiest one around and it makes my phone much bigger than it is but to date I don't have so much as a single scratch on my phone. The membrane that goes over the keyboard itself is worth what the phone looks like, texting and emailing are so much easier with the membrane on that if I ever take it off it feels difficult and strange to use the keyboard. The plastic cover on the screen is great protection too though it does tend to stick to the screen sometimes, this doesn't bother me but is something to note. The sound quality on mine is great because after reading the reviews here the first thing I did when I received my cover is I took off the little padding that they have on the ear piece section, it was easy to pull off and solved any call quality issues.
My only gripes are that the outer silicone covering is tearing right where I plug the charger in for the night, I wish that this was make of a stronger material or atleast was designed in a way that nightly removal of that tab would not result in its tearing off the whole thing. Also when doing a battery pull taking off everything is a big production.
Overall, it's a great cover for those people who want protection on their phones and don't mind the bulkiness of the cover or want a sleek looking phone. This is a strictly utilitarian cover that will get the job done.
UPDATE: Once the section of silicone cover that goes over the battery charger portion was on it's last legs, I called Otterbox. Spoke to a rep and explained the situation to him, he was very nice and apologized, said that never should have happened and sent me out TWO silicone cover replacements at no charge. Otterbox really came through for me and maybe they upgraded the quality of the silicone cover because the new one never tore or has had any issues at all. My husband does not have a case for his phone and it looks like someone really put it through the wringer, I've had to replace his screen for him numerous times. I bought my Blackberry six months before he bought his and mine looks brand new.

My BlackBerry is a vital part of my staying connected, so naturally, I want to give it the best possible protection while keeping access to all of its features. This OtterBox lets me do that. While I wouldn't whack it with a fifteen pound sledgehammer, the case is plenty durable for drops from head height (I'm six feet (1.84 meters) tall), offers perfect protection against dust and other particulate getting into the ports, and even acceptable protection from moisture and water (Again, it's not a SCUBA Dry Suit for your device, so no dunking your BlackBerry in a pond, okay, people?) such as dropping it in snow or slush.
In short, it's not mil-spec perfect protection, but it's the best I've found on the open market.
Needing better fluid protection and the holster being a little TOO secure (tough to pull the device from its holster clip) are the only things keeping this from getting a perfect five star rating - it's exactly what I was looking for and expecting.

From now on, I will purchase an Otterbox Defender case for every phone I buy. The durability is great. The two downsides are when you have to remove the SD card, the whole thing has to be taken apart since the card is buried in with the battery. But there isn't a better solution to that problem, so I can't fault the product. The other downside for me is the silicone outer membrane. I find these to collect any lint, animal hair or other debris it comes in contact with. But again, the product wouldn't form fit as well with leather or other types of material.

Excellent quality and build and design. I work in a very austere work enviroment and my phones go through hell. I will purchase Otter Box for my phones and my families phones!!! AAA+++ Do not waste your time or money as I have on other cheap fake phone protectors. Buy Otter Box and save yourself time and money.

The case really protects the phone. It was easy to install. It protects against drops, accidental water spillage, and dust.
