Working Great So Far Jun 15, 2010
By Melissa A. Moritz I'm using this with my iPod 120 Gb Classic. When I first plugged in the microphone nothing happened. The microphone has to plug in all the way to work, so I couldn't use my hard plastic protective cover with it. After getting it plugged in, the Voice Recorder software (pre-installed on all iPod Classics) did not show up on the menu. I quickly realized that my menu was full (due to the options I had selected for the front screen such as Pod Casts, Movies, Music, etc). Once I "reset menu options" on the iPod and again tried plugging in the mini-microphone, the Voice Recording option showed up. Once you have a recording saved, the Voice Recordings option always shows up, even if the microphone is not plugged in.
Testing shows promise. I bought this microphone to record gaming sessions (Dungeons & Dragons, World of Darkness, Call of Cthulhu and other tabletop games). Sitting the iPod Classic on top of a notebook on the table in front of me (laying flat) it sounds great. I also tested it from sitting across the table and standing across the room. The microphone is surprisingly clear. I've recorded 8 hour gaming sessions and only used about a third of the iPod Classic's battery power. As long as you have a fully charged iPod, you shouldn't run out of juice while recording.
